Sabyinyo Lodge

With panoramic views of the mist-shrouded treetops of the Volcanoes National Park in northwestern Rwanda, Sabyinyo Lodge welcomes you at an altitude of around 2,500 meters. With their mustard-yellow painted facades and flat tiled roofs, the 10 rustic cottages blend harmoniously into the green mountain landscape in the midst of the Virunga volcano massif. Follow in the footsteps of U.S. zoologist and primate researcher Dian Fossey to discover the nearby headquarters of the national park and set out on unforgettable gorilla trekking tours. The pristine natural idyll is also perfect for spotting exotic bird species and the playful golden monkeys that swing from treetop to treetop.

Culinary

The culinary day begins with the wake-up call in the early morning hours with freshly brewed coffee or tea and cookies. Whether after the first activities or a restful night - the extensive breakfast buffet, which is served in the restaurant or on the terrace of the main building, depending on the weather, leaves nothing to be desired. At lunchtime and in the evening, you will be spoiled with aromatic menus, from which you can also choose the appropriate wine accompaniment. If you have planned a trekking tour, the accommodation will provide you with a lovingly packed lunch. You can then end the evening quite comfortably at the fireplace in the garden.

Location

With its spectacular location on the ridge of the extinct Sabinyo volcano, Sabyinyo Lodge offers breathtaking views of the dense bamboo forests and surrounding volcanic landscape. Only about 15 minutes separate you from the national park headquarters, which is especially convenient if you are heading out for early morning gorilla treks. If you are physically fit, you can also explore the mountains by mountain bike or on extended hikes, for example, to the volcanic craters or lakes. The Volcanoes National Park is also known for the work of the US explorer Dian Fossey. Her research station and her gravesite can also be visited.

Activities

Experience the gentle giants of the jungle up close - around one-third of the world's mountain gorilla population lives in the Volcanoes National Park. A number of the approximately 10 gorilla families can be visited in small groups of 8 people as part of guided trekking tours under the expert guidance of a ranger. You will hike through the rainforest to the natural habitat of the rare primate species. For about an hour, you can then study the not-infrequently human-like behaviour of the gorillas - an experience for the ages. Back at the lodge, the crackling fireplace awaits you. In a separate room, you will receive detailed information about the sustainable projects of the community trust. A visit to the surrounding villages is also possible.
