Rwanda inhabitants

The landlocked East African country of Rwanda has a population of around 12 million. Of these, just over one million live in the capital, Kigali. With approximately 432 inhabitants per square kilometre, Rwanda is the most densely populated country in Africa. The population is also very young: 40 per cent are under 15 years old. The official languages are Kinyarwanda, English, French and Swahili.

Rwanda's inhabitants are very hospitable. Rwanda is also very progressive in terms of gender equality. Women make up over 60 per cent of the parliament and half of the judges on the Supreme Court. There is a quota that stipulates a 30 per cent share of women. According to the World Economic Forum, Rwanda ranks 5th in terms of gender equality. This puts Rwanda ahead of Germany (in 12th place).
